January 26, 2010

Eufaula, Alabama – August 13, 2009 – The Eufaula Heritage Association will host the 45th Eufaula Pilgrimage on  April 9,    10,& 11, 2010.  The Pilgrimage, which is an annual event, was first held in 1965 and attracts thousands of visitors each year.

Nestled on the banks of the Chattahoochee River at the junction of U.S. Highway 431 and 82 at the Georgia border, Eufaula is home to the second largest historic district in Alabama and has over 700 structures listed on the National Register of Historic Places.  It is a picturesque and thriving town, noted for its Southern hospitality and its beautiful Greek Revival and Italianate mansions that bear witness to its settlers’ early prosperity.  Lovely Queen Anne cottages and Victorian homes beckon visitors to savor the delights of small town life.  Explore quaint shops downtown, visit historic churches, stroll down shady streets lined with dogwoods, magnolias, and live oaks.

Choose among 7 daytime homes, 4 candlelight homes and fragrant gardens to tour.  At the Antique Show and the Art Show and Sale, in the heart of the Seth Lore Historic District, you will find some of the South’s most treasured artists exhibiting their works.  Enjoy an afternoon tea or a picnic on the porch at sunset.  Visit historic Fairview Cemetery where both famous and notorious residents “come to life” at sunset to tell their stories in the popular dramatization of Tales of the Tomb.  You can participate in our evening Ghost Walk, where you will meet some unforgettable former citizens of Eufaula.

Tour hours are 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. central time Friday and Saturday.  Sunday hours are 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. central time.  Group rates are available for groups of 15 or more.
