Sponsored by the Friends of Coastal Gardens, this fund-raising event includes educational lectures, activities for children, plant vendors, and arts and crafts vendors. Listen as UGA Extension Agent Dave Linvill shares the secrets of growing tomatoes in Chatham County in the free lecture “Totally Tomatoes” at 10 am. Savannah’s own GreenFeet Walkabouts walking tour guide Roy Heizer will tell you about “Savannah’s Garden Plants” at 11 and 1. He’ll have his new book for sale and signing following the lecture.  This is your opportunity to purchase an outstanding selection of bamboo plants as well as other garden plants from our vendors. Arts and crafts are also well represented. There will be face painting for the youngsters and free balloons at the Panda Club tent. Southside Fire Department’s fire truck and Chatham Mosquito Control’s exhibit will be here. There will be a snack bar and the always  Page 2popular funnel cakes. The GA Dept of Natural Resources will have a wildlife  exhibit sure to be of interest to kids. Admission to the festival is free but there will be a $2 charge for parking. Some activities are free while others have a small charge.  Visitors to the 50-acre Bamboo Farm will experience one of Savannah’s hidden treasures. Display gardens, bamboo groves, pick-your-own strawberries and blackberries in season, places to picnic and to walk are to be found in this historic site. Nationally known for the bamboo collection and palm collection, the farm is now developing an extensive camellia garden with the help of the Southeast Camellia Society. Recently the Farm drew public attention for research into growing bananas in the local area.   Contact:Jeffrey Webb, Associate SuperintendentBamboo Farm and Coastal Gardens912-921-5460    coastal@uga.eduhttp://www.ugaextension.com/bamboo
