Model airplane day at Mighty Eighth

July 14, 2010

POOLER - On Saturday, Aug. 28, the Mighty Eighth Air Force Museum is offering a free children's model airplane building class and free child's admission with the purchase of a model airplane.
World War II model airplanes are on sale in the Museum Gift Store for $12. This is great activity for the whole family.
Children's model airplane building classes will be offered at 10 a.m. and 1 and 3 p.m. Spaces are limited so to save your spot in the building class call (912) 748-8888 or at education@mightyeighth.org. Unique model airplanes from the Museum's archive collection will be on display.
It is also the perfect time to see the museum's newest addition a WWII era B-17 bomber. The museum is restoring its B-17 in honor of the original, "City of Savannah" which was the 5000th airplane to have been processed through Hunter Army Airfield during World War II. The "City of Savannah" is undergoing a complete restoration and is on display now in the Combat Gallery. Come be a part of history in the making!
Activated in 1942 in Savannah, the Eighth Air Force was a critical strike element in World War II and remains an active force today. The Mighty Eighth Air Force Museum is one of the word's most powerful Museum experiences as it honors the Mighty Eighth's proud legacy by preserving the stories of courage, character and patriotism displayed by the men and women of the Eighth Air Force from World War II to present.
The museum is at 175 Bourne Ave. in Pooler, off of I-95 at exit 102. For more information, visit www.mightyeighth.org or call (912) 748-8888.
